This Is a Sketchbook
I am not a sketcher—perhaps, that’s why I chose a written entry last year, instead—but, I love art and I love challenges. Sketching for me, is like speaking a second language which I understand, but don’t have full grasp of. It’s knowing what I want to draw and then staring at a blank page and doubting myself from the first pencil stroke. It’s facing failure and then telling it to step aside. About half way through when the lines come together and the design becomes apparent; I set my doubts just far enough away that I can find them when I turn to the next blank page. Below, are five times when doubt didn’t win.
This Is a Sketchbook is a collaborative project with talented, multi-media artists. Kat Spaur is a mixed media artist working in both 2 and 3 dimensions, primarily from natural and found materials. Craft, DIY, nature, day-to-day life, politics, poetry, holistic health, and living with chronic kidney disease are some of her diverse sources of inspiration. She currently resides in Oakland, California, where she enjoys monthly art walks, patronizing vegan restaurants, and hanging around her studio loft with her cat. You can find her on Facebook as Kat Spaur, Artist: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kat-Spaur/186987498010763. Elizabeth Gaydowski draws from numerous media and styles to create unique pieces. She is an accomplished doll maker and project creator/docent for Art to Grow On, an art enrichment organization.
The Sketchbook Project is a constantly evolving library of projects from a worldwide community of artists which will take the nation by storm this summer.
